The office of the Registrar of Political Parties is an independent government department whose major function is the management of all issues pertaining to political parties registered within the United Republic of Tanzania by Law. The office of the Registrar of Political Parties was established by Act of Parliament No 5 of 1992. The Office of The Registrar of Political Parties is responsible to the Prime Minister’s Office under the Minister for Parliament and Government Coordination. Since its establishment the office will celebrate its 15th year of service on the 5th July 2007. The office derives it operational mandate from the constitution of the united Republic of 1977 and the Political Parties Act No. 5 of 1992, which stipulates existence of more than one political party in this country, duties and functions of the Registrar of political parties. The political parties Act No. 5 of 1992 is currently under review to capture the current and future multiparty democracy practices and style. The Registrar is the chief player with the mandate to implement the law. The Office of The Registrar of Political parties is operationalized in the following units for effective and efficient delivery of its services; Registration of Political Parties, Monitoring of political parties, Administration and Human Resources Management, Procurement Management, Finance and Accounts, Internal Audit and the Information, Education and communications Units.
And this is according to the new approved Organizational structure. The Office visions a politically stable, mature and a democratic United Republic of Tanzania. And this achieved through management and nourishment of the health of political parties with a mission to sustain of political stability, democracy and peace in the country. |
